General guidelines, screening and monitoring of environmental impacts for targeted watershed management program at USAID/MEXICO
All projects funded by USAID must conform to US regulations requiring evaluation to ensure that no adverse environmental impacts result from the projects that cannot be mitigated. USAID/Mexico works with non-governmental and governmental organizations and civil society to support conservation of natural resources in targeted watersheds in Mexico. The program supports proposals in a broad range of activities that include capacity building, community exchanges, some scientific research, and improved planning. The program also supports small construction activities, some forest restoration work, ecotourism development at very small scales, and introduction of alternatives to current cropping approaches. In addition, USAID/Mexico envisions a part of its program to consist of small grants and contracts that will be orchestrated by a committee formed by representative of USAID, the partner organizations and the key offices in the Mexican government.
